Did the nuns of the Cộng đoàn Kẻ Sắt Hội dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc ever imagine their quiet lives would intertwine with the tumultuous history of Vietnam? Cộng đoàn Kẻ Sắt, one of the four original communities of the Mến Thánh Giá Xuân Lộc congregation, has a history as rich and complex as the nation itself. Established in the Kẻ Sắt parish on June 1, 1966, this community initially provided a haven for orphaned and abandoned children. The nuns nurtured and educated these vulnerable souls, offering them a sanctuary amidst the uncertainty of war. Before 1975, the sisters established an orphanage here. They dedicated themselves to caring for numerous children, providing them with shelter, education, and a sense of belonging. However, the changing political landscape after the war forced the closure of this orphanage. The nuns had to adapt to the new realities. They sought new ways to serve their community and support themselves. In recent years, Cộng đoàn Kẻ Sắt has experienced a revival. With renewed support and the opportunity to focus on education, the sisters established the “Trường Mầm non Bông Hồng” kindergarten. This kindergarten is now the largest among the congregation’s communities, marking a significant milestone in the Cộng đoàn Kẻ Sắt’s journey. Today, over twenty sisters reside in this community. They are actively involved in various roles within the kindergarten and the larger Kẻ Sắt and Đại Lộ parishes. Their duties extend from teaching and administrative tasks to serving in the local church communities. The sisters’ unwavering dedication reflects their commitment to shaping young minds and nurturing the spiritual growth of their community. They teach catechism, provide pastoral care, and offer support to those in need. Their work resonates with the core values of the Mến Thánh Giá Xuân Lộc congregation, carrying forward a legacy of service and faith.
