The banyan tree is important in Buddhism, as it is said to be the place where Buddha attained enlightenment. The locals mispronounced “Banyan” as “Bayon,” and the name stuck. Today, the Bayon Temple is a must-see attraction, and the East Entrance Plaque is a reminder of its history and the importance of the king’s vision.
