A gift to Denver. That’s what the sign at Robinson Park says. It’s a simple statement yet it holds a powerful history. Robinson Park wasn’t always a park. This land was once a bustling brickyard. The Robinson Brick Company a giant in Colorado’s history made millions of bricks here. Their bricks built iconic Denver buildings like the Brown Palace Hotel and the State Capitol.

William H Robinson a Scottish immigrant founded the company in 1880. His son John W Robinson led the company for years continuing his father’s legacy. In 1941 after John’s death the company donated ten acres to the city. This generous gift became Robinson Park.

Imagine the transformation. A noisy brickyard became a peaceful green space. Clay pits turned into a gentle slope perfect for sledding. The park opened on July 4th 1941. Mayor Benjamin F Stapleton and the Robinson family attended the dedication.

Over the years Robinson Park became a beloved community hub. Families picnicked children played. Concerts and festivals filled the air with music and laughter. The park underwent improvements new playgrounds benches and even restrooms.

Today Robinson Park stands as a testament to a family’s generosity. It’s a reminder of Denver’s industrial past and its vibrant present. It’s a place where history and community merge in a beautiful setting. Take a moment to appreciate this special place a gift that keeps on giving. It’s more than just a park it’s a piece of Denver’s story.
