The Garden of Diversity began as Marzahn Recreational Park. It opened in 1987 to mark Berlin’s 750th anniversary. Over time, it grew to include many international themed gardens. The Gardens of the World offer services for visitors with visual impairments and mobility constraints. Free wheelchairs and accessible toilets are available. It was Germany’s first park to receive the Signet Accessibility Award for accessible features marketing.

There are several playgrounds for kids and a maze to keep them entertained. The water playground “Konrad rides into the South Seas” is based on Erich Kästner’s novel “Der 35. Mai”. It features a climbing whale, water forest, hammock, trampoline, and South Sea huts. Children’s rallies help kids explore the gardens in a playful way.

The Gardens of the World connect to the Kienberg underground station via a cable car. Attractions like the Wolkenhain and Natur-Bobbahn are easily accessible. The natural bobsleigh run offers summer tobogganing.

The Gardens of the World started in 1987 for the Berlin Garden Show. The Chinese Garden opened in 2000. Themed gardens from different regions, eras, and cultures were gradually added. The International Garden Exhibition (IGA) Berlin took place here in 2017. Further landscape spaces, buildings, art, and playgrounds were created for the IGA.

A day pass to the Gardens of the World costs 7 Euros. Take the bus to Blumberger Damm/Eisenacher Straße. Parking is limited. The visitor center is at the main entrance on Blumberger Damm. It serves as a meeting, conference, and information venue.
