And then there’s the organ. A custom-made mechanical tracker organ. It’s a marvel of engineering. Built with the generosity of 276 donors it boasts 37 stops 51 ranks and a whopping 2536 pipes. Ranging from 3/8 inch to 18 feet long these pipes are housed in American red oak cases. The cases are stained to a rich walnut finish and embellished with gold leaf Celtic designs inspired by the Book of Kells. It’s the largest tracker organ of its kind in San Diego the largest ever built by Martin Ott. The tracker mechanism itself is a testament to German craftsmanship. These organs are built to last centuries some 17th-century instruments are still in use.
