SV Energie Berlin was not always known by that name. Its origins trace back to 1913. Two rowing clubs, Albatros and Spreestern, joined forces. They formed the Rudervereinigung von 1887. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Berlin’s rowing history.
In 1914, the Rudervereinigung von 1887 purchased a waterfront property. It was located at Gutenbergstrasse 4-5. This location remains the home of SV Energie Berlin today. A year later, in 1915, a clubhouse was inaugurated here. It featured a boat hall, changing rooms, and a grand hall for celebrations. This new facility became the heart of the rowing community.
Over the years, the club underwent several name changes. These changes reflected the evolving landscape of sports organizations. In 1953, it became the rowing section of Sportvereinigung Fortschritt. Later, in 1962, it was known as Rudersektion der BSG Lok Oberspree. In 1969, it became BSG Einheit Zentrum. Then, in 1976, it was named Sektion Rudern der BSG Energie Berlin. Finally, in 1990, the club adopted its current name: SV Energie Berlin.
Today, SV Energie Berlin is more than just a rowing club. It is a community of about 130 members. They participate in various rowing activities. These include leisurely tours, competitive races, and indoor rowing on ergometers. The club welcomes rowers of all ages and skill levels. There are programs for youth, adults, and masters rowers. SV Energie Berlin also offers training for individuals with disabilities.
The club actively engages in fundraising efforts. Currently, they are raising money for a sound system. This system will be used for their large boats. As of February 19, 2025, they had already collected 849 euros. The target amount is 1215 euros.
