“Ever wonder how the human mind works?” Right here at the Psychology Studies of Guangzhou University, or \u5fc3\u7406\u5b66\u9662 as it is known in Chinese, you can find some answers. It has a long and fascinating history. The Psychology Studies began in 1984. Guangzhou University gained the right to offer a master’s degree program in “Social Science.” It was the first of its kind in China.
Today Psychology Studies is a key discipline of Guangdong Province. It has Pearl River Scholars in important positions. The university offers programs for a master’s degree in psychology. It also offers a professional degree of Master of Applied Psychology.
Under Psychology Studies, there are three disciplines. These include general psychology plus developmental and educational psychology. Applied psychology is also one of the disciplines. A program for undergraduate studies is available. It is applied psychology. Applied psychology is a pilot program for reform in Guangdong Province.
The laboratory covers almost 800 square meters. It is a key laboratory for philosophy and social science. This is for higher education institutions in Guangdong Province. The lab features advanced devices for research and teaching. These include ERP eye trackers and near infrared spectroscopy. The laboratory devices are worth nearly 15 million RMB. The faculty team of Psychology Studies has 34 members. There are 13 professors and 12 associate professors. Twenty-nine members hold doctorate degrees. Seven are doctoral supervisors. Twenty-two are master’s supervisors. The team leader is Professor Ye Haosheng. The faculty includes a Pearl River Scholar. Fifteen members have overseas experience. One expert receives a special allowance from the State Council.
The faculty has undertaken many research projects. These include projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. There are also projects of the National Social Science Fund of China. Faculty members have also compiled five national planning textbooks. Over the past five years, more than 150 papers have been published.
To serve local needs, the faculty collaborates with Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau. Together they established centers for mental health. These centers serve middle and primary schools in Guangzhou City. More than 80000 teachers have taken part in the training program. The university received an award for its work in moral education.
The Department of Applied Psychology drives development. It focuses on teaching clinical medicine scientific research and social services. In recent years, it has hosted programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has worked on precision medicine and humanities programs.
The department authored a trend-setting book. It is called Guangdong Province College Students’ Mental Health Education and Psychological Counseling Work Standards. This book was adopted by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province.
The faculty has published many textbooks. These include Psychological Counseling Psychological Assessment and Measurement. They also include Mental Health Education to College Students.
The Department of Applied Psychology hosts events. These include the Guangdong Exhibition of Native Art and Original Psychological Comics by College Students. They also host the Guangdong Basic Teaching Skills Contest for the Curriculum of Mental Health Education to College Students. The faculty has done outstanding work. They focus on the psychology of TCM and mental health education to college students.
