How many rooms does a school need to house 8000 students? The Children’s Academy in Mumbai, India, a school that started with just five rooms, has grown into a thriving hub of knowledge. Children’s Academy was founded by Shri V.V. Bhat in 1970. He, an inspector of education, noticed shortcomings in many schools that were not being addressed. He had a vision of providing a holistic and inclusive education to students. He thought that discipline and hard work were essential to the learning process. He rented five shops in Ishwar Bhavan at Poddar Road in Malad East. It did not have enough rooms so he rented and then occupied all 20 of the rooms in the building. The Children’s Academy took a leap forward when they purchased their own property in Bachani Nagar in 1979. This land would be home to the Malad Branch. Mr. Bhat’s vision continues to grow today. There are three other branches of the Children’s Academy: Ashok Nagar, Thakur Complex, and Ghodbunder Road. The three schools cater to pupils from nursery levels to the 10th grade. Their hard work and dedication to their vision to create a dynamic learning environment has resulted in thousands of excellent students ready to face the challenges of the world.
