“Ocean lovers unite” I declare, as we gather here at Seagrove Park. Seagrove Park offers more than just a pretty view. It is an experience for the senses. Seagrove Park sits high on a grassy bluff. It overlooks Del Mar beach. The view stretches out before you. The Pacific Ocean sparkles.
There is no direct beach access from Seagrove Park itself. But its proximity to Powerhouse Park is a big plus. Powerhouse Park is right next door. It provides easy access to the beach. The two parks together face a popular surf spot. It is known as the 15th Street surf break.
Seagrove Park is bordered by Powerhouse Park to the north. A quiet residential neighborhood sits to the south. An active railway runs along the beach side. It goes partway down the bluffs. You might even see a train go by.
Many people choose Seagrove Park for special events. Weddings are very popular here. Only one permit is issued per day. So, it is often booked far in advance. Sometimes, it is booked even two years ahead. If you visit on a summer weekend, expect to see a wedding or other permitted event.
If you love the ocean but not the sand, Seagrove Park is perfect. It offers a bird’s-eye view of the coast from a cushiony expanse of grass. This is the park to visit. It is for those who prefer looking at the ocean to being in it.
Feel free to stretch out on the grass here. Bring a blanket and relax in this tranquil park. Talk, dream, read a book or take a nap. Seagrove Park provides a tranquil pause. It is a welcome break from a busy San Diego vacation.
The park is surrounded by lush vegetation. Benches are placed strategically. They offer the best views of the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. Watch the surfers catch waves. Or, take in the romantic colors of a Southern California sunset.
There is plenty of space to play. Toss a Frisbee or play a game of flag football. Kids can run around and play. The park includes a small play structure. It has a rubber play surface for safety. Children will enjoy waving to the passing trains.
Seagrove Park features a walking path. It circles through the park. Take a leisurely stroll. Or, enjoy a brisk walk with your dog. This park may not have many amenities. But it offers plenty of serenity.
Seagrove Park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. This small, residential park includes walking paths. There is also a children’s playground. You will find benches, restrooms and picnic tables here.
Propane grills are allowed. But charcoal grills are not permitted. You can bring food and non-alcoholic beverages. Plastic, glass or recyclable cups and containers are welcome.
Smoking and fires are not allowed in Seagrove Park. Alcohol, excessive noise, tents and overnight camping are also prohibited. Leashed dogs are welcome. Please clean up after your dog. Plastic bag dispensers are available in the park.
Parking is available in the pay lot across from Powerhouse Park. You can also find parking along the streets in the residential neighborhood. Another option is under L’Auberge Del Mar Resort. There is also a free parking lot at City Hall. It is located at 1050 Camino Del Mar. More free parking is available downtown. It is available along the street after 6 p.m.
Powerhouse Park is right next door. It has beach access for swimming and surfing. It sits next to Jake’s Del Mar. This is a beachside restaurant with an upscale menu. Del Mar offers many entertainment options. These include Thoroughbred racing, shopping, dining and neighborhood parks. Nearby Del Mar Plaza has boutiques, galleries and eateries. Visit the Flight bird sanctuary. It is on Jimmy Durante Boulevard. You can feed and interact with exotic birds there. Luxury accommodations are available at L’Auberge. Or, enjoy a romantic stay at Les Artistes boutique hotel.
