The Church of Our Lady of Consolation stands as a testament to the Polish community that settled in Williamsburg. Established in 1909, this church served as a spiritual home for Polish residents. Before this grand structure existed, the area was under the pastoral care of St. Stanislaus Kostka’s parish. The founder and first pastor, Reverend Alexius A. Jarka, held mass in the McCaddin Memorial Hall. This was a temporary measure while the church we see today was being built. The cornerstone of the Church of Our Lady of Consolation was laid on May 8, 1910. The church was dedicated later that same year. The church was designed to accommodate 800 people. The building also housed a school with six classrooms. A parish hall was located in the basement. Imagine the community gatherings and celebrations that took place here. The Church of Our Lady of Consolation became more than just a place of worship. It became the heart of a community.
