In 1914, a seed of faith was planted in Sentul. This seed would blossom into St James Church. This church was established for the Tamil Anglican community. Many worked at the nearby Railway Central Workshops. The community grew after the First World War. New arrivals came from South India and Sri Lanka. Initially, they held prayer meetings in homes. By the 1930s, the community worshipped at St Mary’s Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur. St James Church Sentul began to take shape in 1933 with an early structure. This building expanded in the 1960s with new wings added to accommodate the growing congregation. The growth continued. Eventually, a new building was needed. The current St James Church Sentul was completed on September 4, 1988. A new chapel and community hall were added in 2011. St James Church Sentul stands as a testament to the enduring faith of the Tamil Anglican community in Sentul.
