Did anyone see where that egret landed? Rosillo Creek, cutting right through this landscape, has always been a silent witness to history. This unassuming creek played a crucial role in the Mexican War of Independence. In 1813, Rosillo Creek was the site of a pivotal battle. The Republican Army of the North, a force of revolutionaries, clashed with Spanish Royalists near where the creek meets Salado Creek. Imagine the tension, the clash of steel. The battle was swift. The revolutionaries, outnumbered but determined, routed the Royalist forces in less than an hour. The victory at Rosillo Creek paved the way for the revolutionaries’ capture of San Antonio. It marked a turning point in the fight for independence.
