Could a wooden Pietà whisper tales of resilience? High above the Remigius Church, nestled among the vineyards, the Marienkapelle seems to hold its breath, a silent witness to centuries of stories. The Marienkapelle’s origins lie in the final years of the Thirty Years’ War, a testament to faith amidst turmoil. Originally crafted from wood, the chapel was later rebuilt in stone during the 18th century, solidifying its presence on the landscape. Stepping inside the Marienkapelle, your eyes are immediately drawn to a wooden Pietà, its presence radiating a sense of peace. Carved from a single piece of wood and standing about 90 cm tall, this Pietà has silently observed the changing world for almost 300 years. Outside, a large cross stands sentinel. It was erected in gratitude for the end of an epidemic, a symbol of hope and deliverance. From its perch on the hillside, the Marienkapelle offers stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and the Moselle Valley. The chapel’s serene setting and breathtaking panorama have transformed it into a beloved vantage point, a place where visitors can find solace and inspiration.
