Established around 1900, Maschpark retains its original late 19th-century German garden design. The park’s triangular layout is bordered by Friedrichswall, Willy-Brandt-Allee, Culemannstrasse, and the Leine River. Its northern edge is marked by prominent landmarks. These include the New Town Hall and the August Kestner Museum. The southern end of Maschpark merges seamlessly into the Leineaue and Maschsee. Originally a floodplain for the Leine and Ihme rivers, Maschpark’s transformation began in 1899. The New Town Hall served as the centerpiece of this ambitious project. Completed in 1913, the park features a stone relief by Georg Herting. This relief honors Julius Trip, the mastermind behind Maschpark’s design. Today, Maschpark boasts a diverse collection of plants, reminiscent of a botanical garden. Evergreens like rhododendrons and conifers thrive alongside exotic magnolias and tulip trees.
