Cradled between the Duong River and Highway 5, Xã Cổ Bi whispers tales of ancient Vietnam. Xã Cổ Bi is more than just a village in the Gia Lâm district of Hanoi. It holds the echoes of dynasties, the resilience of a community, and the promise of a vibrant future. Xã Cổ Bi stands as one of the oldest settlements in the Gia Lâm district. After the August Revolution of 1945, it was renamed Trung Thành, reflecting the loyalty and steadfastness of its people. However, in 1965, the name Xã Cổ Bi was restored, honoring its rich history and cultural significance. This area holds a special place in Vietnamese history, recognized as one of the “tam cổ” or “three ancients,” alongside Cổ Loa and Cổ Pháp. Imagine Xã Cổ Bi during the reign of King Hùng Vương. It was part of the Vụ Ninh fiefdom, a land known for its spiritual energy and exceptional individuals. Over the centuries, Xã Cổ Bi served as a strategic base for various dynasties, including the Hai Bà Trưng, Tiền Lý, Ngô, and Trần. These powerful rulers recognized the strategic importance of Xã Cổ Bi’s location. They left their mark on the landscape and the stories of the village. The village also holds a captivating legend surrounding the construction of Cổ Bi Palace during the reign of Trịnh Cương (1709-1729). This magnificent palace, covering over five square meters, was a testament to the architectural prowess of the time. Sadly, it fell into disrepair and was later dismantled. However, remnants and artifacts, like the intriguing “green stone unicorn,” can still be found in Xã Cổ Bi and neighboring Trâu Quỳ. These relics offer a tangible connection to the grandeur of the past. Today, Xã Cổ Bi is a vibrant community of over 15,000 people. It’s undergoing a transformation from an agricultural economy to one focused on trade, services, and industry. Modern developments like the Green Oasis Cổ Bi are springing up, showcasing the village’s embrace of progress while holding onto its historical roots.
