Today, we stand before Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Ampang. It is more than just a school. It is a place etched with stories of transformation and growth.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Ampang began its journey in January 1963. Back then, it was known as Ulu Kelang Primary English School. The school started with two classes of Year One students. They were temporarily housed at SRJK Jalan Gurney.
In July 1963, construction began on a new building in Ulu Kelang New Village. The new school comprised two double-story blocks and a canteen. By January 1964, the building was complete. The original two classes moved here. Three new Year One classes joined them. This brought the total number of students to 219. The school also had a headmaster, five teachers, and a janitor. This marked the beginning of Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (1) Kuala Ampang. English was the medium of instruction then. Miss E.R. Richards was appointed as the first headmistress.
Around 1965, the school accommodated Remove Classes. These prepared students for secondary school. Puan Chan Kong Yew supervised these classes in the afternoon. In 1967, En. C.Ayudorai took over full management of the Remove Classes. In January 1969, these classes moved to Sekolah Menegah Jenis Kebangsaan Batu 4 ½ Ulu Kelang.
The student population continued to grow. By January 1971, it reached 1450. This led the Selangor Education Office to split the school into two administrations. Thus began Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Ing.) Satu Hulu Kelang Baru. Miss E.R. Richards remained the headmistress. En. Abd. Manan Simpol assisted her as Senior Assistant Teacher.
Around 1972, the school’s name changed to Sekolah Kebangsaan [Satu] Hulu Kelang Baru. This happened when Bahasa Melayu became the medium of instruction in all schools. The school magazine “TEKUN” was published for the first time. En. K. Kanapathy was the editor.
Around 1973, Miss E.R. Richards retired. En. Othman b. Mond Ali took her place. He introduced the School Song. He also established the Library Room.
The Parents and Teachers Association was officially formed on September 22, 1973. Tuan Haji Abdullah b. Sulaiman was the chairman. He held this position until 1979. On July 20, 1974, the Miss E.R. Richards Library was inaugurated. En. Tan Teik Beng, the Director of Education Selangor, officiated the event.
Around 1975, an additional canteen building was built. It was connected to the old one. The PIBG renovated the interior. It became the Science Room in 1981.
1976 brought two significant changes. First, the school’s name changed again. It became Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan [Satu] Kuala Ampang. This aligned with the renaming of Hulu Kelang Baru to Kuala Ampang. Second, En.Othman b. Mond. Ali was transferred to Sekolah Kebangsaan Hishamuddin. Tuan Haji Fakharuddin b. Hussien replaced him.
In December 1979, Tuan Haji Fakharuddin b. Hussien moved. Tuan Haji Hamzah Maamur b. Sulaiman took over. That year, PIBG elected Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haji Othman Bokhari as its leader. Under his leadership, PIBG successfully raised funds. They bought a Nissan C1 800 bus. It could carry 66 students.
Additional classrooms were built in 1983. These were used for Moral Education and Remedial Classes. In 2009, Sekolah Kebangsaan (1) Kuala Ampang had 62 students and 18 teachers. The school is now a Sekolah Transformasi Sekolah 2025. This program is designed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
