Madrid-Delicias Station began operating in 1880. This spurred urbanization nearby. Industries and warehouses were drawn to the area. By the early 1930s, many plots along Paseo de las Delicias and Calle del Ferrocarril had residential buildings. Businesses wanted land near the railway for transporting goods. Railway companies sold land no longer needed.
The railway also helped build large industrial facilities. These facilities supplied Madrid. A branch line connected Madrid-Delicias to the Cattle Slaughterhouse and Market and the Central Fruit and Vegetable Market.
The 1950s saw the greatest industrial land occupation around Madrid-Delicias. Passenger service ended in 1969. This coincided with deindustrialization. The “Pasillo Verde Ferroviario” urban plan was implemented in the 1990s. Las Delicias transformed. It changed from rural beginnings to a vibrant neighborhood.
