The Campus Universitaire Ambohitsaina is the main campus of the University of Antananarivo. The university’s history began on December 16, 1955. It started as the Institute for Advanced Studies in Antananarivo. Then it blossomed into the University of Madagascar in 1961. Finally, it adopted its current name, University of Antananarivo. The campus itself, Campus Ambohitsaina, was established in 1988. It’s located on the eastern edge of the capital. The circular campus, with a diameter of 750 meters, is encircled by a ring road. Currently, only about half of the campus area is developed, leaving room for future expansion. The Campus Universitaire Ambohitsaina houses four key faculties. These are Law, Economics and Sociology, Social Sciences and Literature, Medicine, and Engineering. The university also has other sites. There are the Maison de l’Innovation in Soavinandriana and a location in Antsirabe. The Campus Universitaire Ambohitsaina plays a critical role in Madagascar’s educational landscape. The university library and archives, established in 1960, are essential resources for students and researchers. In 1988, as part of higher education reforms, regional university centers were created. These centers provided access to library branches throughout Madagascar’s regions. Since 2010, the institution has been known as the Bibliothu00e8que et Archives Universitaires. The university even has its own publication. It’s called Akon’ Ambohitsaina. Le Journal de l’Université d’ Antananarivo. It was formerly known as Bitsik Ambohitsaina.
