What secrets lie behind the humble facade of Second Mount Olive Baptist Church? Here, on Cavalcade Street, stands a testament to faith and resilience. Second Mount Olive Baptist Church has been a beacon in the Fifth Ward community since 1966. It all began with Reverend Peter Taylor and a small group of believers. They held services in temporary locations, their faith unshaken. In 1975, the church faced a profound loss with the passing of Reverend Taylor. However, their faith remained strong. They found new leadership in Reverend Herbert Piro, who guided the Second Mount Olive Baptist Church for eighteen years. The church continued to grow under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Ray Young, who served from 1994 until his passing in 2020. His legacy of love, faith, and hope continues to inspire the congregation today. Pastor Young oversaw a period of significant expansion, both spiritually and in numbers. The church’s move from Chew Street to its current location on Cavalcade Street is a testament to this growth. Today, Second Mount Olive Baptist Church, led by Pastor Bryan O. Morris, Sr., continues its legacy of service and faith. It stands as a symbol of hope, a place where the community gathers for solace, inspiration, and spiritual guidance.
