Mac Arthur Park Church of God

In 1954, a small group of families embarked on a journey of faith. They laid the cornerstone for what we now know as the Mac Arthur Park Church of God. Originally named the Alamo Heights Church of Christ, this congregation began its journey in a humble residence on Joliet Avenue. The Mac Arthur Park Church of God’s first service echoed with the prayers and hymns of just eight families on May 16, 1954. Their faith resonated through the community. By 1958, the small residence could no longer contain the burgeoning congregation. The church leadership, recognizing the need for a larger space, acquired land at the current location on N Loop 410 & Post Oak Lane. Construction began in 1959, envisioning a 300-seat auditorium and eighteen classrooms. The Mac Arthur Park Church of God held its inaugural service in the new building on October 21, 1959. The congregation’s growth was a testament to the church’s vibrant community. In 1972, a new classroom addition was built. This expansion accommodated the growing number of families seeking spiritual guidance. In 1979, a larger 900-seat auditorium was completed. This expansion, along with expanded parking, further solidified the Mac Arthur Park Church of God’s presence in San Antonio. The church celebrated 50 years of ministry in 2004, marking a significant milestone in its journey. In 2014, the original 1958 auditorium, which had been repurposed as a Fellowship Hall, was restored. This restoration allowed for larger gatherings and community events. The Mac Arthur Park Church of God continued to evolve. In 2019, the parsonage was removed from the Post Oak Lane property. This change paved the way for the “MacLot” and the “MacPavilion” in 2020. This outdoor space, complete with a covered pavilion, became a hub for various ministry events. The Mac Arthur Park Church of God continues to thrive. Its mission remains steadfast: to love God, love people, and change the world.
