From its humble beginnings in April 1963, Sakura City Nishishizu Junior High School has witnessed decades of growth and transformation. Nishishizu Junior High, as it’s often called, was established, separating from the upper Shizu Junior High. The first principal, Yasushi Imaizumi, oversaw twelve grades with a student population of 478. Now, as we stand before Nishishizu Junior High, imagine those early days. Picture the excitement of the opening ceremony, the fresh paint on the walls, and the hopes and dreams of those first students. The school expanded rapidly. By 1964, eighteen classes held 724 students. Over the years, Nishishizu Junior High has seen many changes. New facilities were added, including a gymnasium and a lunchroom. School lunches began in 1967. The school even earned recognition for its “Good Tooth School” program and was designated as a research model school by the Sakura City Board of Education. The leadership has also changed hands many times, each principal leaving their mark on Nishishizu Junior High. From Mr. Akiyoshi Takaoka, the sixth principal, to the current leader, Mr. Hiroshi Iwatsuki, the fourteenth principal, each has guided the school through different eras and challenges. Today, Nishishizu Junior High continues to nurture young minds, fostering self-reliance and a passion for learning. The school’s motto encourages students to “understand themselves, discover their strengths, and embrace their potential.” This commitment to personal growth is evident in everything from the school’s curriculum to its extracurricular activities. As you look at Nishishizu Junior High, remember the generations of students who have walked these halls. Their laughter, their struggles, and their triumphs are all woven into the fabric of this school’s history. Nishishizu Junior High School stands not just as a building but as a living testament to the power of education and the enduring spirit of its community.
