In 1979, a small group of Christians began meeting in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Koh Eng Kiat. This marked the humble beginnings of the Full Gospel Assembly (FGA) in Kuala Lumpur. These gatherings, led by Dr. Koh and his brother-in-law, Mr. Ang Chui Lai, quickly grew. They soon realized a need for a dedicated space to preach the full gospel. By early 1980, the Full Gospel Assembly moved to a shop house in Petaling Jaya. The congregation expanded to around 400 members. This necessitated another move in mid-1981 to the top floor of the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The Full Gospel Assembly’s time at the Majestic Hotel was short-lived. The government decided to convert the hotel into an art gallery. The church leaders prayed for guidance. A defunct cinema, the Goodwood Cinema, located off Old Klang Road, was presented as an option. Through a leap of faith, the Full Gospel Assembly purchased the cinema. After minor renovations, they held their first service there in December 1983. Driven by the Holy Spirit, the church continued to flourish. Numerous ministries were established as the congregation expanded. The Full Gospel Assembly planted satellite churches and outreaches to accommodate this growth. Thousands of people now attend services each week. This mega-church continues to bless and influence the community. Dr. Koh Eng Kiat, a key figure in FGA’s history, led the church for 28 years. He passed away in 2007. His legacy lives on through the thriving Full Gospel Assembly.
