How about uncovering a cornerstone of Colorado’s Muslim community? We are standing before the Islamic Center, also known as the Colorado Muslim Society. It is a place with a rich history and deep community roots.

The Colorado Muslim Society was established in 1964. It was registered as a non-profit organization. The organization is religious, cultural, social, and educational. It is also humanitarian and non-political.

In 1974, the Society marked a significant milestone. They purchased a building. This became the first masjid in Colorado. It was located on Ash Street in Denver.

By 1978, the community had outgrown its original location. A four-acre lot on South Parker Road was purchased. This is where the Islamic Center stands today.

Construction occurred in two phases. The first phase was completed in 1983. It included the mosque. This serves as the main prayer hall for both men and women. Four classrooms were also built. These rooms were for the Weekend Islamic School. A kitchen and separate ablution areas were added. Bathrooms for men and women were also part of this initial construction. Abdul Hakim Minhas was the Project Manager.

The second phase was completed in 2004. It added a multi-purpose room. Additional classrooms were included. An office and management area were also added. Abdul Hakim Minhas and Talibudin Syed oversaw this expansion.

The Islamic Center is more than just a building. It is a vibrant community hub. The Center offers religious, educational, and cultural programs. These programs serve men, women, and youth. The Center strives to present Islam according to the Quran and Sunnah. They promote understanding through dialogues and outreach.

The Colorado Muslim Society adheres to core values. They are committed to Islamic principles. These principles come from the Quran and Sunnah. They value respect and inclusion. The diversity of the community is important. Transparency and community participation are emphasized. Growth and development are also key values.

The Islamic Center’s mission is clear. They aim to serve the best interests of Islam. They also want to serve Muslims in Colorado. Their vision is to please Allah by serving Islam and Muslims.

The Islamic Center continues to evolve. It adapts to the needs of its growing community. The Center remains a beacon of faith, learning, and unity. It enriches the cultural landscape of Denver.
