This is more than just a building. It’s a spiritual home for the Sikh community in San Diego. Its history is woven into the vibrant tapestry of the city’s diverse faiths. Established in 1994 the Sikh Society of San Diego was founded to meet the needs of the Sikh community.

The opening of this Gurudwara was a monumental achievement. Thirteen years of dedication culminated in a grand three-day ceremony. Akhand Paths continuous readings of the Guru Granth Sahib were held to celebrate this new place of worship. This sacred scripture is the Sikhs’ eternal spiritual teacher.

Imagine the pride felt by the Sikh community. Children who were in kindergarten at the start were now in college. The Gurudwara provided a much-needed space for gatherings and religious services. Before this the nearest gurdwaras were in Poway and Riverside.

The Gurudwara boasts a large worship hall. It also has a kitchen for preparing community meals. A room for a spiritual leader is also available. This was a significant improvement from using Del Dios Middle School for weekly services.

This isn’t just a place of prayer. It’s a hub of cultural activity. A Punjabi school thrives here. It is wonderful to see so many students eager to learn Punjabi. Many non-Indian students also attend. Volunteer teachers have done an incredible job making this happen. Classes are held Sundays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Kirtan the singing of verses from the Guru Granth Sahib fills the air. Hukam the order of the day is read. Ardas communal prayers are offered. And Langar free vegetarian meals are served. These events happen on Sundays and Wednesdays.

This Gurudwara isn’t just for Sikhs. All faiths are welcome. Just remember to remove your shoes and cover your head. Head coverings are provided for visitors.
