“Seize the moment” a quiet voice inside you urges as you stand here. The Mirador de Peñarrubia offers more than just a view. It reveals a story of Madrid’s hidden natural treasures.

The Mirador de Peñarrubia stands proudly in the northern part of Monte de El Pardo. It’s a wooden structure that elevates your perspective. From here the landscape unfolds. It lets you see the city’s skyline and the expansive Monte de El Pardo. Many mistake this spot calling it Mirador de El Pardo.

El Pardo a district annexed to Madrid in 1950 is often called the city’s true green lung. Many routes crisscross El Pardo. The Senda de Peñarrubia is one of the most iconic.

King Fernando VI ordered a wall built around El Pardo in 1750. This was to protect the animals from poachers. It inadvertently preserved the area’s flora and fauna.

The Senda de Peñarrubia offers an easy walk about an hour and a half long. It allows hikers to enjoy the scenery among rockroses and evergreen oaks. With luck you might spot rabbits wild boars or deer.

Reaching the Mirador de Peñarrubia after about 45 minutes of walking is rewarding. The wooden structure provides even better views. There are bins and a picnic area nearby. This makes it an excellent place to pause.

The path continues towards the road. The path briefly merges with the GR-124 Senda Real. This connects Manzanares El Real with the Royal Palace of Madrid.

The return path is quieter but frequented by cyclists and horse riders. It runs parallel to a fence that separates the public area from the protected zone of El Pardo. While ostensibly protected for wildlife this area is also known as a hunting preserve for powerful figures including the royal family.

The absence of signs can make the final stretch back to the parking area tricky. The easiest way is to follow a wide sandy path. You will see the cars to your upper right.

Hikers appreciate the Mirador de Peñarrubia for its panoramic views. You can see the towers of Madrid and the distant northern mountains.

This viewpoint is a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy a snack while taking in the beauty of Madrid’s natural surroundings. The Mirador de Peñarrubia provides a unique vantage point. It reminds us of the surprising blend of nature and city.
