Six members. A home. That’s how Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church began in 1956. Their motto was “The Church Where Everybody is Somebody”. Rev WR Hancock led this small congregation at 8605 Farqueson Street Houston Texas.
Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a testament to faith and community. It was a journey of growth. From humble beginnings it blossomed. In 1958 they purchased a building at 3814 Herald Street. This remains their current location. This wasn’t just a purchase. It was an act of unwavering belief.
Under Rev Hancock’s guidance Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church thrived. They bought land for parking. They acquired a church van. They even installed a baptism pool. They remodeled their church. These weren’t just improvements. They were symbols of their expanding community.
Rev Hancock’s dedication ended in 1985. The church found another shepherd. Rev Nelson LaFleur arrived from Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. He instilled spiritual growth. The church continued to expand physically. They purchased more land for parking. They even built and dedicated a new house of worship. This shows the enduring legacy of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
