“Baa!” Can you hear that? That’s just one of the friendly greetings you might receive at Newbridge Traditional Farm. Let’s step back in time to experience a slice of old Irish farming life.

Newbridge Traditional Farm offers a fascinating glimpse into Ireland’s agricultural past. It is located within Newbridge House Demesne. The Demesne opened as a regional park in 1986. It spans approximately 370 acres. The land features gently undulating pastureland and woodland walks. You can also find a deer park and the ruins of Lanistown Castle.

Imagine yourself surrounded by the sights and sounds of a traditional Irish farm. The cobbled courtyard adds to the charm. It leads you into a world where old breeds of farm animals roam. Displays of machinery tell stories of farming life from previous centuries.

Newbridge Traditional Farm is home to a variety of animals. You might spot Shetland and Connemara ponies in the paddock. Piglets, goats and baby chicks frolic in the farmyard. The farm brings generations closer to Ireland’s agricultural heritage.

Newbridge House itself has quite the story. Charles Cobbe commissioned James Gibbs to design the house in 1744. Work began in 1747. It is Gibbs’s only executed work in Ireland. The Cobbe family later gave the house to Dublin County Council in 1985.

The interiors of Newbridge House are remarkably complete. They are amongst the best preserved in Ireland. The family’s historic collection remains in place. This agreement ensures that visitors experience the house as it was lived in by the Cobbe family.

Beyond the farm, Newbridge Demesne offers even more. Explore the Walled Garden with its extensive orchards. Discover old Irish apple varieties. Admire the restored 19th-century glasshouses. Sections of the walled garden have been replanted with herbaceous borders. Families can also enjoy a Children’s Playground and Sports Pitches. Newbridge Traditional Farm is managed by Shannon Heritage in partnership with Fingal County Council.

So, as we conclude our visit to Newbridge Traditional Farm remember the animals. Recall the machinery displays and imagine the lives of those who worked this land. It’s more than just a farm. It’s a living piece of Irish history, preserved for all to enjoy.
