Journey with me back to 1937. The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace wasn’t the grand structure you see today. It was a modest building, reminiscent of a Spanish-style two-story stucco house. It could only hold about 200 souls. Before this humble structure, the church community didn’t even have a dedicated building. They held services and catechism classes in private homes, led by the Oblate Fathers of St. Ferdinand’s Church and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Can you imagine the intimacy of those gatherings? The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace, as we know it now, owes its existence to Father Patrick Ryan, who oversaw the construction in 1937. It wasn’t until 1944 that the parish was officially established. The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace wasn’t just a place of worship. It became a hub for the community. The current church building stands at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Langdon Street, near Sepulveda Boulevard in North Hills, Los Angeles. Inside, you’ll find the vibrant energy of a diverse community. Mass is celebrated in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, reflecting the rich tapestry of cultures that call this place home. If you’re looking to join in worship, the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace offers Mass times throughout the week. Saturday Masses are held at 8:30 am, 5:30 pm, and a Spanish Mass at 7:00 pm on the second, third, fourth, and fifth Saturdays of the month. Sunday Masses are held at 7:00 am in Spanish, 9:00 am in English, 10:30 am in Vietnamese, and Spanish Masses at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm. Weekday Masses are available at 8:30 am and 6:30 pm in Spanish. The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace also offers other services. Adoration occurs on Fridays from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm on the first Friday of the month, and all-night adoration is held from 7:30 pm on the third Friday to 7:00 am on Saturday. Confessions are heard on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. From its humble beginnings in private homes to the vibrant community it serves today, the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace continues to be a beacon of faith and a testament to the dedication of its parishioners.
