Three men in their cars, armed with a vision, knocked on thousands of doors across Northwest Houston. They conducted a religious census and spread the word about a new church taking root. Calvary Church’s first service bloomed on the last Sunday of September 1982. One hundred and seventy-five souls gathered, marking the start of this vibrant community. Calvary Church began as a beacon of evangelism. Local church members pledged their support. They served on the worship team, helped in the office, led Bible studies, and continued the door-to-door outreach. The church grew, fueled by hard work and excitement. Over the years, Calvary Church blossomed. It transitioned from a focus on evangelism to cultivating a deep relationship with God. The church sought to become a place of listening and responding to God’s call. This led to a focus on building true Christian community. Calvary Church’s physical journey reflects its spiritual growth. From Francone Elementary School’s cafetorium to a warehouse near Highway 290 and Jones Road, and even a movie theater redolent with popcorn, the church finally found its home here. This location isn’t just a building. It’s a portal to God’s presence, a place for meeting the Lord. In 1987, with a congregation of 120, Calvary Church took a leap of faith. They purchased this property and built this very building you stand before. The journey continues. Calvary Church’s story is still being written, filled with testimonies of grace and love.
