A symphony of steel and artistry, that’s the Yun Installation. It’s nestled within the heart of Shenzhen’s Sanzhoutian Forest Park. The Yun Installation isn’t just a structure; it’s a sensory experience, an architectural marvel designed by Meng Fanhao of line+ studio. Commissioned by the Yantian District Government, the Yun Installation serves as a landmark in the mountain-park belt. It represents an important step in Shenzhen’s “Mountain-Sea Connected City, Beautiful Green Shenzhen” initiative. Located on Maluan Mountain at an elevation of 380 meters, the Yun Installation commands breathtaking panoramic views. You can see the bustling city of Shenzhen, the serene Dapeng Bay, and the lush forests surrounding the Sanzhoutang Reservoir. The location itself is a juxtaposition of nature and urban landscapes. This tension became the central theme of the design. The Yun Installation is designed as a journey. The structure incorporates a Z-shaped, three-dimensional path leading visitors through various levels and platforms. These platforms offer stunning vantage points, encouraging visitors to pause, observe, and soak in the surrounding beauty. The architecture emphasizes transparency and lightness. The use of modern materials, including curved glass and UHPC panels, ensures unobstructed views. This creates a “non-routine” curved space that enhances the visual interplay between the structure and its mountain-sea environment. Inside, the Yun Installation continues the theme of sensory exploration. Curved lines and flowing forms dominate the interior, blurring the lines between inside and outside. A striking metal installation graces the space between the three-story coffee shop and reading area. This installation, a blend of form and function, serves as a book display and coffee preparation area. Its irregular stainless-steel surfaces contrast sharply with the white terrazzo floor. This creates a futuristic, almost cyberpunk feel, especially against the backdrop of the mountain and sea views. Even the restrooms offer a unique experience. A full-height metal installation and a curved acrylic wall greet visitors at the entrance, hinting at the surreal experience within. The interior space unfolds around a central circular installation, again playing with the concept of flowing space. The Yun Installation is more than just a building. It has become a cultural phenomenon, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It has quickly become a trendy destination, exceeding even the architect’s expectations. It is a space for everything from quiet contemplation to wedding ceremonies. From its inception as a service station, the Yun Installation has blossomed into a vibrant public platform, hosting art exhibitions and new car launches for brands like Ferrari and Porsche. It embodies the evolving role of public buildings in the modern age, serving not just as landmarks but as dynamic spaces that inspire and engage the community.
