Tomball Library

Ever wonder how a library began with just one bookcase? The Tomball Library’s story starts in the 1920s, right here in Tomball, with a humble bookcase holding just 200 books inside the old Post Office building on Main Street. This early iteration, sadly, fell victim to the Great Depression. However, the thirst for knowledge in Tomball didn’t disappear. During World War II, a Harris County bookmobile began making stops on Main Street every three weeks, rekindling the community’s love for reading. This sparked the formation of a Friends of the Library group. They rallied to raise funds, eventually securing a dedicated space at 1010 West Main for the Tomball Library. As Tomball grew, so did its library. It moved to 500 Elm Street in 1965, then to James Street in 1972. The Tomball Library continued to evolve alongside the community it served. Finally, on January 20, 2005, the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library opened its doors at its current location. This partnership with Lone Star College marks a new chapter in the library’s history, offering a wide range of resources and programs. The Tomball Library’s journey reflects the community’s enduring dedication to learning and growth. From a single bookcase to a modern facility, it continues to be a vital resource for Tomball.
