The JAWS ride first opened its mechanical jaws in 2001. It was a near-identical copy of the original JAWS ride in Florida. This incredible recreation transported visitors to the fictional town of Amity. You’ll board a boat and cruise through the charming streets. Suddenly the peaceful scene turns terrifying. The great white shark Bruce attacks. The shark animatronics were sometimes temperamental. Sometimes even malfunctioning. Reports say that occasionally one of the animatronic sharks would be out of service. This didn’t always detract from the ride experience however. Remember the infamous mechanical shark from the original Spielberg film? It too suffered many malfunctions. The JAWS ride at Universal Studios Japan was known for the occasional technical difficulties with its animatronics.
