Grasshopper Lodge’s story began long before its current form. Two older houses stood here. They were later renovated. A modern building connected them. The result is the Grasshopper Lodge we see today. It houses 29 student rooms.
King’s College acquired the leasehold of Grasshopper Lodge in 1982. The college linked it to their property at 1 Cranmer Road. This expansion provided 28 much-needed study bedrooms. The entire complex was then named Grasshopper Lodge. A significant expansion.
The lodge wasn’t always a student residence. It had a different purpose before King’s College’s acquisition. Interestingly King’s College further expanded in 1992. They purchased 3 Cranmer Road. This addition provided 17 rooms for graduate students.
Each room at Grasshopper Lodge boasts a washbasin. Shared kitchens and bathrooms are on each floor. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on the ground floor. The rooms vary in size. Rents vary accordingly. Some lucky students even enjoy balconies or mini greenhouses.
Grasshopper Lodge continues to serve King’s College. It provides essential student accommodation. It stands as a testament to Cambridge’s academic legacy.
