Wow What a journey this will be. We are standing before the Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule a vibrant elementary school in Hamburg. Its story is one of resilience adaptation and community spirit.

The Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule opened in August 2019. It’s a relatively new school but it has already made its mark on the Eimsbüttel community. The school community celebrates many achievements. They had a formidable result from a school inspection in the autumn of 2024. The students clearly love attending the Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule. The school takes pride in making the students feel at home.

The Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule is more than just a place of learning. It is a hub of activity. The students participate in a wide range of activities. These include Advent singing. They take part in candle-making workshops at the Kreuzkirche. Students also explore art. One class studied Hundertwasser’s window rights. They created art inspired by the artist’s belief that the space around a window is personal and should be decorated as one pleases. They also created art based on Van Gogh’s sunflowers. The students have also visited the Hubertus Wald Kinderreich in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe. They engaged in shadow theater. They created backdrops and took photos. They even tried on costumes. There’s plenty of play time for the students. They participate in many sports like inline skating. Their school newspaper the WoBoNews is live. They are actively engaged in community projects. They have participated in Hamburg’s clean-up initiative. They even organized a banner for International Week Against Racism. The school held a Wolfgang Borchert reading. They also celebrated Carnival with costumes and a disco. The school has also hosted a climate club.

The school even undertakes international collaborations. The international preparatory class presented a dance flash mob on the Jungfernstieg and Rathausmarkt. They performed in cooperation with genety e.V.

The Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule’s journey is far from over. It continues to grow and evolve. It is a testament to the dedication of its students teachers and the broader community. This modern school embraces creativity community engagement and a love of learning. It is a vibrant addition to the heart of Hamburg. What an inspiring place.
