Osaka City Higashi Sonobe Junior High School. This institution has witnessed a significant slice of Osaka’s history. Let me transport you back to its humble beginnings. On April 1st, 1963, thirteen dedicated teachers embarked on a journey to shape young minds. Just a week later, the first entrance ceremony took place in a temporary building, welcoming 373 eager students. Imagine the excitement and anticipation as these students started their educational journey. By September of the same year, the first phase of construction on the present site was complete, and the school moved to its current location. On October 21st, the second phase was finished, marking a milestone in the school’s history. This date is now celebrated as the school’s foundation day. The school song, echoing the spirit of the students and staff of Osaka City Higashi Sonobe Junior High School, was officially adopted on December 13th, during the opening ceremony. Osaka City Higashi Sonobe Junior High School has been more than just a place of learning. It has also served as a sanctuary during times of crisis. During the devastating Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, the school opened its doors to those seeking refuge, providing shelter and support to the community. The school serves a specific district in Osaka, encompassing students from the Osaka City Sonobe Elementary School and Osaka City Sonobe East Elementary School. The school boasts a variety of extracurricular activities. These clubs, from baseball to kendo and from brass band to calligraphy, cater to diverse interests.
