Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Bangkok, a beacon of faith stands tall. The Islamic Center of Thailand. This grand mosque isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Muslim community in Thailand. The Foundation of the Central Mosque of Thailand was established in Bangkok on October 1, 1954. A group of Muslims, driven by their commitment to religious freedom, joined forces to bring this vision to life. The name was later changed to The Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand on September 24, 1976. The mosque’s unique architectural design was finally completed in 1984. The construction cost around 54 million baht, roughly $1.2 million today. Half of the funds were generously donated by Muslims both locally and internationally. The Royal Thai government provided the remaining half between 1981 and 1983. The Islamic Center of Thailand has continued to evolve and improve. The mosque can accommodate over 3,000 worshippers. It houses two prayer areas, ablution areas, an auditorium, a VIP reception hall, offices, a bookstore, a library, and a food hall. There are also meeting rooms and a kitchen. The center stands on approximately 16,976 square meters of land, acquired through purchases and donations. It’s funded primarily through Zakat, donations, fundraising, service fees, and some government investment. The Islamic Center of Thailand is more than just bricks and mortar. It serves as a vital hub, promoting education, social services, and cultural awareness within the Muslim community and beyond. The center also provides guidance and resources to various institutions, regardless of their religious affiliation. It offers advisory services and social welfare programs. Its vision is to be a unifying Islamic organization in Thailand. It aims to contribute to the betterment of both the Muslim community and society as a whole. The Islamic Center of Thailand actively works to bridge communities and foster peaceful coexistence. It undertakes outreach programs with schools, church groups, and other organizations. Its dedicated staff and volunteers continually seek to develop themselves. They are committed to promoting and developing the Muslim community in Thailand. They also strive to dispel misconceptions and share the message of Islam with the public.
