Beulah Baptist Church wasn’t always located where it stands today. The original building proved inadequate for its growing congregation. So in 1923 a new church was constructed. The cornerstone was laid on November 11 1923. The church’s growth continued under the leadership of Reverend James F Bolden. He served until 1934. The mortgage was even burned on Thanksgiving Eve in 1920 a symbol of the community’s triumph.
Later significant events shaped the church’s history. In 1963 Beulah Baptist relocated from the Eastwick section to its present location at 50th and Spruce Streets. This move was prompted by redevelopment in the Eastwick area. This relocation marked a new chapter. Reverend William A Lee oversaw this transition and even received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. He pastored the church until 1976. The church continued to thrive under subsequent pastors. Reverend Timothy E Ruffin established numerous ministries. His tenure ended in 1998. Reverend William Henley took over in 1999. He continued to build upon the church’s legacy.
