Amidst the hustle of north Dublin stands Clarehall Shopping Centre, a place where modern commerce meets local convenience. Clarehall Shopping Centre opened its doors in July 2004. It quickly became a focal point for the community.

The story of Clarehall Shopping Centre begins long before its grand opening. It echoes with whispers of Claregrove Hall, a former house. Later, the Clare Manor Hotel stood here. These places lent their name to the nearby housing estate. The shopping centre inherited the name too. Even the icehouse of the original house remains.

In March 2000, Tesco unveiled plans for a £20 million shopping centre. They acquired the 10-acre site for around £12 million. However, planning permission wasn’t straightforward. The Dublin City Corporation initially rejected Tesco’s proposal. Tesco wanted a shopping centre instead of a standalone store. After a four-year campaign, Tesco received approval in May 2002. The project cost around €70 million.

The grand opening of Clarehall Shopping Centre occurred on July 19, 2004. Kerry Katona cut the ribbon. Clarehall won the “Commercial Development in the Republic” Irish Property award in 2004. Clarehall Shopping Centre spans three floors. Tesco, one of Ireland’s first Tesco-branded stores, anchors the middle level. Other shops occupy the ground and middle levels. The upper level features entertainment and office facilities. Among these are a driving license application center and a medical center. The ground level primarily serves as parking. It offers external laundry facilities. A Tesco grocery collection point is also available here. A high glass roof tops the main building. It captures heat. This increases operational efficiency.

A smaller building sits within the main center’s curtilage. It once housed a gym with swimming pools. Now, it is divided into shops and a restaurant. Clarehall Shopping Centre offers over 800 free covered parking spaces. Designated disabled parking is available. Parent and child parking spaces are provided.

Served by Dublin Bus routes 27, 42, and 43, Clarehall Shopping Centre connects easily to Fairview and Connolly train station. So, whether you’re here for groceries, a driving license, or a quick bite, Clarehall Shopping Centre is more than just a shopping destination. It’s a community hub built on history.
