Perhaps you’ve noticed its contemporary architecture. San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita stands as a testament to faith and community in Milan.

San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita is more than just a church. It is a place with a story. It is a story that began in the early 20th century. Specifically, the church’s story starts with the vision of Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster. He was then the Archbishop of Milan. He wanted a new church for the growing Regina Elena neighborhood.

Construction began. Felice Pasquè designed it in a modern style. In 1930, Schuster consecrated San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita. It quickly became a vital part of the local community. It also became a parish church within the Vigentino Deanery of the Archdiocese of Milan.

Inside San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita, you’ll discover a beautiful fresco. It is the Madonna della Rosa in the quattrocento style. This precious artwork came from the ancient church of San Michele alla Chiusa. It closed in 1927 and was later demolished. The fresco keeps the spirit of the old church alive here at San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita.

Music plays a vital role. The church boasts an impressive pipe organ. F.lli Costamagna built it in 1962. It features electric transmission. Two organ bodies reside in the lateral niches at the base of the cupola. Another sits on the floor behind the tabernacle. The console has three 61-note keyboards. It also features a 32-note concave-radial pedalboard.

San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita opens its doors every day. You can visit from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. During the week, masses are held at 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM. These services keep the Ambrosian rite alive. They also offer a place of worship for the local Catholic community.

The church in Piazzale Gabriele Rosa embodies faith and artistic heritage. Its walls whisper stories of Milan’s past. They also echo with the hopes of its present. San Michele Arcangelo e Santa Rita is more than a building. It’s a living testament to community. It is a testament to devotion and artistic legacy. It continues to serve as a spiritual beacon in Milan. It welcomes all who seek solace or wish to admire its beauty. Take a moment to appreciate its blend of history and art.
