Bethel Assembly Church stands as a beacon of hope. It welcomes people from all walks of life. The church’s story began humbly. It started with two young black girls. They were denied membership into a New York City church in 1916.

A compassionate German woman heard their story. She suggested they start their own Bible study. It began in the girls’ Harlem cottage. From this small gathering, Bethel Gospel Assembly was born.

Bethel Assembly Church has grown. It expanded from three members to 1,500 active participants. The church is dedicated to providing spiritual, social, emotional, and physical support.

Pastor Jim Persram and his wife moved to the United States in 1983. They had a successful ministry in Better Hope, Guyana. In 1987, they founded Bethel Assembly of God Church in Richmond Hill. The church initially met in a storefront. It moved to different locations. In 1991, the church acquired land in South Ozone Park. A few years later, a beautiful church building was completed. It was a miracle.

In April 1996, Bethel Assembly Church moved to its new home. It is located at the corner of 130 Street and 115 Avenue in South Ozone Park. The church welcomes people from all races and cultures. Its goal is to share the message of Jesus Christ with everyone.

Bethel Assembly Church firmly believes in salvation through Jesus Christ. It also believes in divine healing. The church embraces baptism in the Holy Spirit. It eagerly anticipates the second coming of Christ.

The church supports over 30 missionary programs. These programs span both local and international locations. Bethel donates an average of $40,000 annually. This money goes to support these vital missions.

Pastor Jim Persram founded Bethel. Lynette Hetsberger manages the Bethel Phone Prayer Network. She also leads the Bethel Seniors Group. Stanley Praimnath survived both the 1993 bombing and the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He now serves as an Associate Pastor. Ken Thakurdeen serves as an Associate Pastor. He leads the Sunday School Department.

Services at Bethel Assembly Church are vibrant. They include uplifting worship music. There is also a time for teaching and prayer. All kids are welcome to participate in Kidz J.A.M.
