How many organizations do you know that have been compared to the Jedi? Right here, we stand before the headquarters of the Department of Special Investigation, often dubbed Thailand’s answer to the FBI. Established in 2002, the Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, handles complex crimes that often involve national security, organized crime, or even high-ranking officials. Unlike the regular police, the DSI operates independently, reporting directly to the Ministry of Justice. Over the years, the DSI has tackled numerous high-profile cases, from the 2010 Bangkok riots to the disappearance of Karen activist Billy Rakchongcharoen. The agency has faced its share of controversy and internal struggles, including allegations of political interference and corruption within its ranks. Despite that, the Department of Special Investigation remains a crucial player in upholding justice and security in Thailand.
