“Shahe, a university built on dreams of flight.” This is Beihang University’s Shahe Campus. It’s located about 26 kilometers from the Xueyuan Road Campus, nestled within the Shahe Higher Education Park. Beihang University (Shahe Campus) began its journey in 2010, welcoming its first students in the fall. This expansion was a long time coming. Beihang University needed space to grow, driven by increasing student numbers and the prestigious National Aeronautical Science and Technology Laboratory project. The Shahe campus offered a fresh start, a place where the future of aerospace could take flight. Imagine a campus sprawling across almost 1,500 acres. Beihang University (Shahe Campus) boasts impressive facilities. There are interconnected educational and laboratory buildings, student apartments, a stadium, and even an engineering training center. Everything a budding aeronautical engineer could need. It even has its own nicknames. Students playfully dubbed the campus “Shahe University of Aeronautics and Astronautics” or simply “Shahe.” The first students who arrived in 2010 were nicknamed the “Martyrs”. Perhaps a testament to the challenges of settling into a brand new campus. Beihang University (Shahe Campus) also has its own unique quirks. The “Monster Wind” is a legendary phenomenon. During winter, the wind howls through the campus, sometimes reaching gale-force speeds. It even affects the local pigeon population. They scatter in terror when the wind picks up and are blown back when calmer weather returns. Beihang University (Shahe Campus) isn’t just a place of study, it’s a vibrant community. There’s a 400-meter standard track, a football field, and a student activity center with basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. The campus grounds are beautifully landscaped. There’s even an artificial lake and sculptures like the “Voice of the Century” and the “School Tree.” A small planet, number 90830, is officially named “Beihang Star,” further cementing the university’s connection to the cosmos. The campus also boasts a training track, affectionately nicknamed the “Too Dangerous” line by students, due to its challenging design.
