Construction of the Beijing Auto Museum began in 2006. The building was completed in 2010. It opened to the public in 2011.

In 2019, the Chinese Museums Association recognized the Beijing Auto Museum. It was named the “most innovative museum in China”. This honor was bestowed among over 5000 museums.

The Beijing Auto Museum collection is a mix of originals and replicas. As of 2014, the museum boasted 80 vehicles. Some are meticulously crafted replicas.
