In 1916, Osaka City Sangenjaya Nishi Elementary School first opened its doors as the Osaka City Sangenjaya Third Elementary School. It was the third elementary school in the Sangenjaya area. The school was established to accommodate the growing student population. It offered a co-educational learning environment, unlike the other two schools in the area which were separated by gender. Osaka City Sangenjaya Nishi Elementary School has a rich history. It has witnessed periods of both growth and hardship. In 1922, a higher education department was added, changing the name to Osaka City Sangenjaya Third Higher Elementary School. However, this department was discontinued in 1930, reverting the name back. The school faced severe damage during the Muroto typhoon in 1934 and again during the Great Osaka Air Raid in 1945. In 1941, due to the National School Order, the school was renamed Osaka City Sangenjaya West National School. During the escalating Pacific War, students from grades 3-6 were evacuated. In 1944, they were sent to Yawatahama City, Ehime Prefecture for safety. The younger students evacuated to Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture in 1945. Following the war and further damage from Typhoon Makurazaki in 1945, two neighboring schools merged with Sangenjaya Nishi. In 1947, with the education reform, the school was renamed Osaka City Sangenjaya Nishi Elementary School. The former East National School reopened in 1958 at its original location. Now, standing before Osaka City Sangenjaya Nishi Elementary School, you can appreciate its resilience. Despite the challenges faced throughout history, it continues to serve the community. The school remains a testament to the enduring spirit of education in Osaka.
