In 1847, a unique seed was planted in the fertile ground of rural DeKalb County. This seed would blossom into the Peachtree Baptist Church. The church wasn’t named for a peach orchard. It was actually named after a bustling “peachtree bartering station”. Locals gathered there every Saturday, exchanging goods near the intersection of Briarcliff and LaVista Roads. This spot sits midway between the north and south forks of Peachtree Creek, giving the church its unique name. Peachtree Baptist Church has been worshipping on the same property for over 175 years. The church’s history is intertwined with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Georgia Baptist Convention. This connection lasted until 2000 when the church chose a different path. Today, Peachtree Baptist Church is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. The church embraces its own unique identity. It has ordained women to ministry and the diaconate. It follows the liturgical calendar and embraces a formal liturgical worship style. Peachtree Baptist Church blends a moderate theology with an emergent approach. The congregation reflects the diverse community it serves. In turn, they strive to reflect the kingdom of God. They are a worshipping community, gathering every Sunday at 11:00 AM. Both in-person and remote attendees are welcome to join their services. They are a Christ-centered community, grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are a loving community, practicing self-sacrificial love for each other and the city of Atlanta. They are a missional community, striving to make disciples through partnerships both locally and globally. Peachtree Baptist Church continues to thrive as a vibrant and welcoming community of faith.
