In the late 1990s, two churches, Nam Seoul Ilsan Church and Ilsan Yangpyeong Church merged, giving birth to this spiritual haven under the name Presbyterian Church of Korea. Officially, Ilsan Elim Church joined the Hapdong denomination in 2020, marking a new chapter in its history.
The church faced a challenging moment in 2021 when its pastor, Kim Deok-soo, advocated against the COVID-19 vaccine. He urged the congregation to resist vaccination. This decision sparked controversy, resulting in an internal survey about his leadership. Of the 604 members surveyed, 519 participated. A significant majority, 453 members, expressed their desire for a change in leadership. Only 66 members supported his stance. The survey highlighted the internal struggle between individual beliefs and the collective well-being of the community. Despite the internal conflict, Ilsan Elim Church persevered, its doors remaining open to all who sought comfort and guidance.
