Bells chime softly from the tower above us. We are standing before Nh\u00e0 th\u1edd Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i a church with a fascinating story.
Nh\u00e0 th\u1edd Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i is located at 69 C\u00f4 Giang. It is in Ph\u01b0\u1eddng 1, qu\u1eadn Ph\u00fa Nhu\u1eadn, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City. The name Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i combines Ph\u00fa Nhu\u1eadn and H\u1ea3i Ph\u00f2ng. These are the ancestral homes of many local parishioners.
Back in 1961 the D\u00e2n Ch\u00faa community bought a house. They renovated it into a chapel. This provided a place for worship.
In 1968 Father JB Ph\u1ea1m N\u0103ng Tr\u00ed and the community began building a new church. It was completed in 1969. The day of the church’s inauguration was doubly joyous. It also marked the official establishment of the Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i parish.
Father JB Ph\u1ea1m N\u0103ng Tr\u00ed retired to Nh\u00e0 th\u1edd Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i in 2001. This was the parish he helped build. From 2001 to 2009 Father Gioakim V\u0169 Ng\u1ecdc Long led the parish. He worked with the community to grow and develop. Today Father Gioakim is retired at M\u00e1i \u1ea5m huynh \u0111\u1ec7 Ph\u00ear\u00f4 in the Cao Th\u00e1i parish.
On September 6 2009 the Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i parish welcomed Father T\u00e2n Ch\u00e1nh x\u1ee9 Ph\u00ear\u00f4 Ho\u00e0ng \u0110\u00ecnh Th\u00e0nh. Bishop Ph\u1ee5 t\u00e1 Ph\u00ear\u00f4 led the solemn ceremony. Many priests religious figures and members of the D\u00e2n Ch\u00faa community attended. This joyful event set the stage for Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i to flourish. It helped them improve themselves and serve others.
Several religious orders collaborate with Nh\u00e0 th\u1edd Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i. The D\u00f2ng M\u1ebfn Th\u00e1nh Gi\u00e1 H\u1ea3i Ph\u00f2ng oversees the parish’s elementary school. The D\u00f2ng Lasan trains catechists teaches catechism and leads the choir. The D\u00f2ng N\u1eef Lao \u0110\u1ed9ng Th\u1eeba Sai \u0110\u1ee9c M\u1eb9 teaches catechism and leads the children’s choir.
Various groups are active within the parish. These include the V\u00f4 Nhi\u1ec5m Gioan and Thi\u1ebfu nhi choirs. Also involved are the Huynh \u0111o\u00e0n \u0110aminh \u0110o\u00e0n Thi\u1ebfu nhi Th\u00e1nh Th\u1ec3 H\u1ed9i Gia tr\u01b0\u1edfng Ban B\u00e1c \u00e1i and Ban L\u1ec5 sinh.
Nh\u00e0 th\u1edd Ph\u00fa H\u1ea3i continues to be a vibrant center of faith. It also provides service to the community in Ho Chi Minh City. The regular worship times are weekdays at 5:15 AM and 5:30 PM Saturdays at 5:15 AM and 5:30 PM and Sundays at 5:15 AM 7:15 AM and 5:30 PM.
