In the heart of Bucharest’s Titan district, Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfinții Români” stands as a testament to community and faith. This church, known locally as the “church on Trapezului,” rests at the crossroads of Bulevardul Theodor Pallady and Strada Trapezului. Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfinții Români” emerged from a diverse community. Many residents were relocated from various parts of Bucharest and the country, some even from the former village of Cioplea. Established on November 5, 2003, with the blessing of Patriarch Teoctist, Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfinții Români” began its journey humbly. The initial services were held in two military tents, offering a temporary haven for prayer until construction began in June 2004. The church’s unique architecture reflects the constraints of its square, 720 square meter plot. The design, inspired by the Curtea de Argeș Monastery’s central square layout, features a Greek cross form. Four pillars, shaped like the church’s footprint, support a 12-sided dome. The construction of Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfinții Români” spanned several years and involved different companies. Somet S.A., led by engineer Marian Stanciu, completed the foundation. Niram S.A., under engineer Marin Stănică, continued the work, raising the walls and eventually the towers. By 2008, the main structure was complete, and services moved from the temporary tents into the new church. Between 2009 and 2015, the finishing touches were added. A mortuary chapel, bell tower, shop, iconostasis, and oak furnishings were installed. The church’s frescoes, created by Alexandru Nicolau, adorn the interior. They tell stories of faith and devotion, adding to the church’s spiritual atmosphere. Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfinții Români” is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant hub for the community, hosting pilgrimages, concerts, and religious education programs. It also provides support to those in need. This support extends to families, the elderly, and those in care homes, showcasing the church’s commitment to its community.
