Built in 1840 by Ludwig Persius a student of the famous architect Schinkel it was commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. He wanted a special place a retreat for himself and his Bavarian wife Queen Elisabeth. The King loved hunting. He used the Forsthaus Moorlake often for his hunting excursions.

The Forsthaus Moorlake wasn’t just a hunting lodge. It held a special significance for the Royal couple. The architectural style is distinctly Bavarian. It was a tribute to the Queen’s homeland a little piece of Bavaria in Brandenburg.

Originally it was a simple forester’s house. This included a stable. Later a restaurant and banquet hall were added. This marked a significant transition in the Moorlake’s history.
