Is it possible to find a piece of Tamil Nadu in the heart of Delhi? Absolutely! This is Tamil Nadu Bhawan, the state’s guesthouse in the nation’s capital. It is more than just a building. It is a home away from home for guests.

Tamil Nadu Bhawan serves state guests. Ministers and government officials also stay here. Representatives of the people can find lodging here. It provides boarding, lodging, and transport. Tamil Nadu Bhawan also works with the Indian government. It follows up on Tamil Nadu’s proposals. The main goal is to provide quality facilities. It wants to make guests from Tamil Nadu feel at home.

Tamil Nadu Bhawan has two locations in Delhi. Both are in the diplomatic area of Chanakyapuri. The first guesthouse is Vaigai-Tamil Nadu House. It was built in 1962. The land measures about 1.757 acres. Its address is No.6 Kautilya Marg, Chanakyapuri. It was originally called ‘Madras House’. Another block was added in 1976. This provided more space for guests.

Later, another guesthouse was built. It sits on 1.966 acres at No.9 Tikendrajit Marg, Chanakyapuri. It opened on September 16, 2004. This guesthouse is called Podhigai-Tamil Nadu House.

Vaigai-Tamil Nadu House has 49 rooms. Podhigai-Tamil Nadu House boasts 73 rooms. These aren’t just rooms. They are small pieces of Tamil Nadu. They offer comfort to those far from their home state.

Vaigai-Tamil Nadu House is near Gujrat Bhavan and Arunachal Bhavan. Podhigai-Tamil Nadu House is close to Uttarakhand Sadan, NEC House, and Tripura Bhavan.

Tamil Nadu House is being rebuilt. The Vaigai building will be demolished. This is due to Delhi’s reclassification into Seismic Zone-IV. The new building will withstand seismic forces. IIT Madras has vetted the design. The new Tamil Nadu House will include a VVIP block. It will have a guest house and staff quarters. There will be three basement floors, a ground floor, and six upper floors. It covers 3 lakh sqft.

Inside, you will find a VVIP suite. There are 39 suite rooms and 60 deluxe rooms. Nine dormitories provide 72 beds. A multi-purpose hall is available. Three dining halls cater to different tastes. There is also a lounge. An exhibition hall showcases Tamil Nadu’s culture. A VVIPs’ camp office and meeting rooms facilitate work. A fitness center and business center cater to modern needs. A library offers a quiet space.

Tamil Nadu Bhawan is administrated by Resident Commissioners. They represent the Tamil Nadu government in Delhi. So, the next time you think of Tamil Nadu in Delhi, remember Tamil Nadu Bhawan. It is a symbol of culture, comfort, and connection.
